i am back

i was away from the blog world for a bit. a trip to france and other things kept me occupied. but i am back. i saw an image this morning that couldn't keep away, and i had to share it with all of you.

i lifted my trash can from the wet grass this morning and noticed several slugs on the plastic. slugs must love the smooth, dirty plastic of the garbage can and it's lid. i counted more than 23 slugs of a variety of sizes. i felt mildy unsettled for unsettling them. as soon as i placed the can and lid in their proper spot near the recycle bin the slugs began to move.

here is a picture of some of them.

i thought about the worms too, but didn't see many this morning, although they are out as well. worms are of the phylum nematoda, where as slugs are from the molluska phylum. so there you go; one may think they are similar, but they really aren't, but then again they are...

triple word score

tonight i went to my friends' robert and stephanie's house. we played scrabble. i also went to a fun party, but i have to admit i really enjoyed the scrabble game. games are a neat way to pass time with people. the party was nice, people dressed up fancy, there was live music, a bonfire outback, pizza rolls and all that party stuff. but, ooohhh, it was the scrabble game, and robert makes a mean guacamole. at one point during my turn, i felt pretty stumped...the clock was ticking, i had to make a move, i stalled for several long seconds, then i saw it! it was amazing! there was an "e" waiting to be used for a triple word score, but i didn't think i had anything, then it hit, i had an "F" and a "Z". "fez" on a triple word score translates to 45 whopping points.

my favorite day at the gates

i was in NYC for the Gates. my favorite day was the first snow day. the beautiful quiet snow, the sounds of the fabric, it was really quite lovely.

sending valentine's to my bill collectors

tomorrow is the ever dreadful day. that day when i don't have a sweetie that i don't quite get it, or when i do have one, then there are things i want and maybe won't get, or maybe it's all just hooey either way. so i am paying some bills today and i decided to write "happy valentine's day" on the memo part of the check. so here's who i am sending valentine's to:

the municipal court of seattle (parking ticket)
puget sound energy (gas bill - so much hot air everywhere)
labcorp (more tests)
chevron credit bank (more gas..)

resolutions schmesolutions

so i write here first...i didn't live up to my promise for this year. it was to be the year of bow-ties, and well, it was the month of January that i managed to clip the cute folded fabrics to my collar. the charm, the endearment, the cuteness, it all seemed worthwhile, and by jan. 29th, i started hesitating. the morning of the 29th i thought, "ugh, another bow-tie...maybe i will wear them only during the months that start with 'J', or maybe only on odd days of the month, or only days of the month that are prime numbers." so goes the rationalizing mind for how people let go of resolutions. it was a good experience all the same, and i wouldn't trade the month of bow-ties for a sharp poke with a stick, or for 2 months of bow-ties. but i think they will appear on occasion, especially on days when i need that extra special perk.
